It didn't take long for the story of Bernadette of Lourdes to arouse strong emotions in people around the world. Today, she is considered one of the most beloved contemporary saints of the Roman Catholic Church.
Upon completion of a major renovation to the original St. Bernadette Church of Albuquerque (1959), the Most Rev. Michael J. Sheehan, Archbishop of Santa Fe, announced his intention to elevate the remodeled church to the status of shrine. On the day of the Proclamation Ceremony, he credited the shrine's rector, Father Thomas A. Zotter, for "having fostered a healthy and beautiful devotion to St. Bernadette in his parish.”
This unique documentary briefly tells the story of "America's" Shrine of St. Bernadette and walks it's viewers through a guided tour of this simple but important place of worship. Included in the "tour" is a detailed explanation of the symbolisms used throughout the shrine and a history of the original works of art.
