St. John the Baptist

This icon is based on an original at St. Catherine’s Monastery on Mount Sinai, painted sometime between 1250-1260. The image is Romanesque and was probably created by an artist in one of the crusader kingdoms in the Holy Land.

His feast day is June 24.
