Giclée Prints

Giclée (pronounced "zhee-clay") is a name for the process of making fine art prints from a digital source using ink-jet printing. The word "giclée" is derived from the French language word "le gicleur" meaning "nozzle", or more specifically "gicler" meaning "to squirt, spurt, or spray". The name has come to mean any high quality ink-jet print and is often used in art galleries to denote such prints.

The word “giclée,” as a fine art term, is associated with prints using fade-resistant "archival" inks and the inkjet printers. These printers use a color process that have multiple cartridges for variations of each color based on the CcMmYK color model (e.g. light cyan and light magenta inks in addition to regular cyan and magenta); this increases the resolution and color gamut and allows smoother gradient transitions.

Artists tend to use these types of inkjet printing processes to make reproductions of their original artwork. Professionally produced inkjet prints are much more expensive on a “per print” basis than the traditional four color offset lithography process originally used to make such reproductions.

Wood Plaques

Our wood plaques are produced exclusively for us by a local manufacturer here in Colorado.

Utilizing our fine art giclée prints, our plaque manufacturer masterfully completes our wood plaques each week. When the plaques arrive, we quality assure each one, attach the appropriate artist narrative to the back and carefully package for shipment.

SCHEDULE:  The Reason Your Wood Plaque Order May Take 5 to 10 Business Days.

When wood plaque orders are received, we make the giclée prints for the wood plaques, usually within minutes of the order.  These prints are collected each week in preparation for delivery to our plaque manufacturer.

Every Thursday morning (9AM MST) we deliver the new prints for the new plaques to our manufacturer.  At the same time, we pick up the finished plaques from the previous Thursday delivery of prints.

We ship the wood plaques every Thursday night.

TIMING:  When You Receive Your Wood Plaque Examples.

If you place your wood plaque order on a Wednesday night or Thursday morning before 9:00AM MST, your turn-around time will be the shortest because your order arrived right before we deliver the weekly prints.  Your order will be ready to ship the following Thursday, 5 Business Days later.

If you place your order on a Thursday after 9:00AM MST, your turn-around time will be the longest because your order arrived right after we delivered the weekly prints.  The prints for your wood plaques will not be delivered to our plaque manufacturer until the following Thursday.  Your order will be ready to ship the second Thursday from your order, 10 Business Days later.

Knowing that we deliver the prints and pick up finished wood plaques from our manufacturer every Thursday afternoon allows you to determine when your wood plaque order will be shipped.

Faster shipping options DO NOT impact the manufacturing times.  Faster shipping options only affect the shipping times AFTER the wood plaques are ready to be shipped.

HIGH DEFINITION METAL PRINTS

Instead of printing images directly on the metal surface, which may scratch easily, the image is infused into the coating to provide permanent protection with high- definition fidelity.

During the high-definition dye sublimation process, your artwork is first printed onto a sheet of transfer paper, which is then placed on a specialized, pre-treated piece of aluminum. We place the metal into the ChromaLuxe sublimation heat press, which heats the transfer paper to the perfect temperature for a reliable transfer, yielding a vibrant deep color and to provide permanent protection.

Because the dyes are infused beneath the exterior coating of the metal, these high-definition prints are scratch resistant. A light, microfiber cloth, household cleaner or waffle weave drying cloth, will leave your artwork looking as good as new for nearly forever.

This high-definition dye sublimation process allows for the rendering of exact details and brilliant colors with superior durability and fidelity. Additional benefits include lightweight, scratch resistant, and ease-of-installation yielding simplified art hanging logistics.

Artwork Narrative

Sts. Boris and George the Hungarian

One of the earliest works from the literature of Medieval Rus’ is “The Legend of Boris and Gleb,” which forms a portion of The Primary Chronicle, a document compiled by various writers from about 1040 to 1118. The legend concerns a tragedy, occurring in 1015, of which the death of St. Olga’s grandson, St. Vladimir, was a catalyst. This extraordinary prince had founded the state of Rus’ and compelled his people into mass conversions to Christianity.
