ARTWORK NARRATIVE:

Traditional Prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary

In this image, Mary is present before the Archangel Gabriel, caught in the moment that is being revealed to her that she will bear and bring the Christ-child, Emmanuel, God with Us, into the world. What a moment! Below is a quote from Fr. Thomas Merton, writer and monk, which captures the immensity of that moment, for Mary and for us:

“The Annunciation was not so much a vision as an earthquake in which God moved the universe and unsettled the spheres, and the beginning and end of all things came before her in her deepest heart.

And far beneath the movement of this silent cataclysm Mary slept in the infinite tranquility of God, and God was a child curled up who slept in her and her veins were flooded with His wisdom which is night, which is starlight, which is silence.

And her whole being was embraced in Him whom she embraced and they became tremendous silence.”
—Thomas Merton

Her Feast day is March 25.

Most holy Virgin Mary,
to whom God sent the Angel Gabriel
to announce that you should be the mother of His Only-Begotten Son,
pray for us who have recourse to you.

Holy, lovely Mary
We give our all to you
What is past and present,
And the future, too.

Blessed be the holy and Immaculate Conception
of the most blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God.

(State your intentions here)

Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to thy protection, implored thy help, or sought thy intercession was left unaided.

Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto thee, O Virgin of Virgins, my Mother; to thee do I come, before thee I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in thy mercy hear and answer me. Amen.
