Artwork Narrative:

Gracious God, we give you thanks for the gifts
Catholic Sisters bring to our church and our world.

We are grateful for their hearts’ focus on You,
their service to those in need and their community lives,
a sign of Your love.

Keep them faithful to their call as you make us faithful to ours.
Together may we reflect on your way of justice and peace,
compassion, and mercy and your transforming love
for our world. Amen.

Franciscan Sisters: Called to be, called to serve

In 1869, five young Catholic women in rural Wisconsin responded to God’s call. They discerned that they should share their daily lives together in religious community. St. Francis of Assisi’s Gospel way of life inspired them. Their love for the Catholic Church and selfless dedication to the service of others guided them.

Today, we Franciscan Sisters of Christian Charity whole-heartedly live our vocation in the loving community spirit of our foundresses. We strive to live the Gospel in simplicity, built on faith in a loving God; joyful acceptance of poverty, love for the Church, and selfless dedication to the service of others.

As Catholic women religious, our Franciscan vocation calls us to diverse service in Catholic education, Catholic health care, and parish and community services.

You may find us serving as parochial and secondary teachers:

as Instructors on the college level

as Parish Administrators

in Community Outreach

as Health Care Administrators

as Music Teachers

as a Medical Ethicist

as Spiritual Directors

in healthcare

as Directors of Religious Education and Youth Ministry

in community ministry

And always, as students yearning to grow in community life and the way of St. Francis.

Our Franciscan vocation calls us to diverse service in Catholic education, Catholic health care and community services throughout the United States. Like St. Francis, we discern our service in ‘out of the way’ urban and rural areas of Arizona, Hawaii, Illinois, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio and Wisconsin.

From Holy Family Convent and Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, Wisconsin to St. Therese in Kekaha, Hawaii, the westernmost parish of the United States.

From community outreach in Yuma, AZ, to the pine scented Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

From Catholic parochial schools in Wisconsin to health care ministry in Zanesville, OH.

From the Pope Paul VI Institute in Omaha, Nebraska to the mission ministries of Arizona in and near Tucson, and Phoenix.

From care to our elderly Sisters to care of the residents of St. Joseph Retirement Center, West Point, NE.
